In 1914 she became the second wife of the prominent Unionist figure Sir Edward Carson (1854-1935). Leopold "Leo" James Maxse was editor of the conservative British publication, National Review, between August 1893 and his death in January 1932. </p>

Dear Lady Carson,   Sir Edward has the enviable reputation of not <lb/>reading letters. It would be so kind of you to hand him <lb/>the enclosure. I am appalled and shocked by this Irish <lb/>development. The installation of a Sinn Fein Government in <lb/>Ireland after the events of the last few weeks <seg type="del">seems</seg>  is  <lb/>simply putting a premium on crime everywhere. Its <lb/>effects in Egypt and India and elsewhere would be incal- <lb/>culable.   Yours very sincerely,   L.J. <hi rend="underline">Maxse</hi>
