             J2/83 (25)   Bandon    11/2/'16.   ROYAL IRISH FUSILIERS<lb/>8th (SERVICE) BATTALION.   My dearest Mai,   I can only<lb/>send you a hasty line<lb/>to thank you ever so<lb/>much for your long<lb/>interesting letter as<lb/>we are under orders<lb/>for the Front and<lb/>march next Wednesday,

             though I shall probably <lb/>not get away till <lb/>Friday night with the <lb/>last regiment. We <lb/>sail from Southampton <lb/>and expect to be in <lb/>France on Saturday. <lb/>I have sent the Father <lb/>two letters, giving all <lb/>particulars, which will <lb/>reach you in a few <lb/>days. While I think <lb/>of it would you mind <lb/>sending Sr' Anthony some <lb/>of my letters as I

             know she would like<lb/>to read them.  I was greatly amused<lb/>by your fight with<lb/><seg type="unclear">Sr</seg> Philomena; as usual<lb/>you came off second<lb/>best. In order to prevent<lb/>any more disputes, as I<lb/>have quite enough on<lb/>my conscience, I am<lb/>going to say Mass<lb/>for each of you — on<lb/>Sunday next for the<lb/>sheep &amp; Monday for the<lb/>goat (you can settle<lb/>which is which!)  Did you hear that

             <seg type="unclear">Ita</seg>Kennedy, the saintly girl I often<lb/>spoke to you about, is entering the<lb/><seg type="unclear">Colattines</seg> at Cork today? Her going<lb/>there is quite a miracle which I<lb/>will tell you some day. I have<lb/>four of my spiritual children there now,<lb/>all little saints and three <seg type="unclear">Colettienes</seg><lb/>elsewhere, so I shall not want for good<lb/>prayers. <seg type="foreign">Au revoir,</seg> dearest Mai, and<lb/>may our dearest Lord bless you<lb/>with His grace and love.
