<p>The letter is from Charles Wyndham Wynne (1895-1917) to his mother, Alice Wynne (d. 1928). Wynne was an officer in the British army and writes from Sussex, where he was stationed.
In the letter he describes life in his new garrison and remarks that, although the work is not very exciting, it is better than his last station.

Alice Katherine Wynne was born to Reverend John George Wynne and Emily Goold. She was married to Albert Augustus Wynne and was the mother of five children, among them Charles Wyndham Wynne. Charles served as a captain in the Royal Garrison Artillery in the First World War. He died of wounds received at Armentieres, June 1917.

Charles Wynne served as a captain in the Royal Garrison Artillery during the First World War. His application to the Royal Flying Corps was denied in 1916 due to his poor eyesight. Charles ultimately died of wounds received at Armentieres, June 1917.</p>

if only his car was running<lb/>we'd have no difficulty in meeting<lb/>but as it is the train service is<lb/>so rotten that though we're only<lb/>30 &amp; 40 miles apart it takes nearly<lb/>the whole day to get from one place<lb/>to another: Wieslan has applied<lb/>for a temporary transfer to the<lb/>Flying Corps.
