Letter from Captain James Davidson (1877-1916) to his mother Clara Mary Davidson informing her how he has spent the last few days of his leave. Davidson notes that the leave has done him a lot of good and hopes it will only be about three months before he is granted leave again. This letter is part of a large correspondence from Captain James Davidson to his parents. Davidson, who was Managing Director of the Sirocco Engineering Works in Belfast, served with 13 Royal Irish Rifles and the Machine Gun Corps. His letters describe his experiences while training in England and serving in France. He was killed on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Leave is up tomorrow. It has all gone past so quickly but it has been a delightful little change & done me a lot of good. Perhaps the next leave will come round sooner — it should be in 3 months. Mrs Ducat dined with me last night & we went to see Romance. It was one of the best things I have seen for a long time. The train was awfully late arriving on Sat. & I only had time to go & order a pair of boots at Faulkners & get one or two other odds & ends but will finish my shopping tomorrow. The boots will be sent to Seacourt & then I will let you know when to send them to me. Will post a pair of shoes home tomorrow before leaving.
