            <note type="summary">
               <p>In this letter from Laurence Ginnell (1852 – 1923) to Hanna Sheehy Skeffington (1877-1946), Laurence expresses his sympathy regarding the death of Hanna's husband, Francis. He then assures her that he is posing questions to parliament, which he was a member of from 1906 to 1916, regarding Francis' death. He asks her to recommend to any friends of hers who may have 'bad cases' to send him information, as he is willing to advocate for them as well.

Laurence Ginnell was an Irish nationalist politician, lawyer, and member of parliament. He initially ran as a member of the Irish Parliamentary Party, but, from 1910 onward he ran as an Independent Nationalist. Hanna Sheehy Skeffington, suffragette, nationalist, language teacher, was the founder of the Irish Women’s Franchise League and a founding member of the Irish Women Workers’ Union. She was the widow of Francis Sheehy-Skeffington who was summarily executed on 26 April 1916. She was active during the Rising, bringing food to the Volunteers in the G.P.O. and the College of Surgeons. Four days passed before she found out what had happened to her husband, Francis (1878-1916), and it wasn't until almost two weeks later that the full details of his execution emerged.</p>
