This is a letter from the extensive Bantry Estate Collection, held in the Boole Library of University College Cork. The collection, which covers a period of 300 years, contains the formal records regarding the legal, financial and general administration of this large house and estate in County Cork.

             Mr H. Perkins <lb/> Union Hill <lb/> Bantry <lb/>Co Cork   Wed 8 Dec   To Mrs Leigh White   My Dear <lb/> Friend   I beg to ask your <lb/> permission to Auction <lb/> the goodwill and tennen <lb/>cy of your ground in <lb/> my possession having <lb/> been in the family over <lb/> (21) years. So you know <lb/> how I have stocked the <lb/> same also put it under <lb/> repair.   <hi rend="underline">(The reason)</hi> <lb/> I am leaving Bantry <lb/> as things are bad and

             I remain your sincere <lb/>friend   Harold Perkins

            have had quarrels at <lb/> home with the wife's <hi rend="underline">brother</hi> <lb/> because I corrected my <lb/> child &amp; punished him <lb/> they said I would not <lb/> do it again; I said I <lb/> would see about that <lb/> and so I will.   I have written to Brighton <lb/> asking to take me back, <lb/> if not granted I am going <lb/> to <hi rend="underline">Australia</hi> fruit farming. <lb/> Trusting you will give <lb/> me permission to do as <lb/> I ask after expending <lb/> all my savings and <lb/> funds given me on the <lb/> said ground without <lb/> a bit incomming of it.

             I don’t know the full <lb/>meaning of this <lb/>request - but the man <lb/>is a discharged sailor <lb/>it is true that money <lb/>amounting to nearly £40 <lb/>at least has been expended <lb/>by him in the   <lb/>I have said I have no <lb/>proof but have provided <lb/><seg type="unclear">to</seg> Trustees to deal with   ATW.
