Handwritten letter from Harold Perkins to Arethusa Leigh-White asking permission to auction the tenancy of land he holds from the Bantry Estate for the last 21 years. He explains his personal and financial situation. There is a note by Leigh-White on her answer. This is a letter from the extensive Bantry Estate Collection, held in the Boole Library of University College Cork. The collection, which covers a period of 300 years, contains the formal records regarding the legal, financial and general administration of this large house and estate in County Cork.

Perkins Union Hill Bantry Co Cork Wed 8 Dec To Mrs Leigh White My Dear Friend I beg to ask your permission to Auction the goodwill and tennen cy of your ground in my possession having been in the family over (21) years. So you know how I have stocked the same also put it under repair. (The reason) I am leaving Bantry as things are bad and I remain your sincere friend Harold Perkins have had quarrels at home with the wife's brother because I corrected my child & punished him they said I would not do it again; I said I would see about that and so I will. I have written to Brighton asking to take me back, if not granted I am going to Australia fruit farming. Trusting you will give me permission to do as I ask after expending all my savings and funds given me on the said ground without a bit incomming of it. I don’t know the full meaning of this request - but the man is a discharged sailor it is true that money amounting to nearly £40 at least has been expended by him in the I have said I have no proof but have provided to Trustees to deal with ATW.
