Thomas Patrick Gilmartin, D.D. (1861-1939) was Catholic Bishop of Clonfert from 1909 to 1918, and Archbishop of Tuam from 1918 to 1939. Rev. John F. Hogan D.D. served as President of St. Partick’s College, Maynooth from 1912 to 1918. Gilmartin writes of two students from the Diocese of Clonfert who are to be accepted into the Priesthood in Maynooth. They will be accommodated with postings in their home Diocese when vacancies arise. In the meantime they must agree to take up posts elsewhere. Gilmartin mentions that the Army is looking for chaplains, but adds that it is entirely up to the students as to whether they wish to volunteer.
