             18/23  <!-- Embossed Address: --> JUNIOR HOUSE, MAYNOOTH.    20 Sept. '16,    My Lord,   I had the<lb/>misfortune to leave the<lb/>College last Saturday<lb/>morning. The cause was<lb/>as follows -:     During the retreat I<lb/>became somewhat scrupulous<lb/>and felt that if I were

             to become a priest, my<lb/>life would be fully of misery.  Having entertained<lb/>these thoughts I had<lb/>the misfortune to leave<lb/>the College last Saturday<lb/>morning, and for this<lb/>offence I crave your<lb/>Lordship's pardon.   I remain, my<lb/>Lord Bishop,    Your Lordship's most<lb/>obedient servant,<lb/>Martin McDonnell.
