               <p>John Francis Hogan (1858-1918) was a priest, author and president of St Patrick's College, Maynooth. He was a teacher in French and Latin and paved the way for ecclesiastical degrees in the college. 
Thomas O'Dea (1858-1923) was educated in Maynooth and remained in the college, later becoming vice president. He was first ordained in Galway before becoming bishop of Clonterf and Galway.
The letter is a request from Thomas O'Dea to have the services of a Mr Ruane for the following Sunday.</p>
