7/10 Bishop's House,<lb/>Queenstown. 22nd Jan 1916 My Dear President You say the subscription for<lb/>the Whitehead Memorial grave-<lb/>stone need not be large -<lb/>in fact - that it be small.<lb/>Put me down for what will<lb/>meet your idea of a not large<lb/>subscription and I will pay. It is very generous, I<lb/><seg type="unclear"/>, entirely too generous,<lb/>of you to pay out of your<lb/>own pocket so large a<lb/>sum for repairing defective<lb/>walls <seg type="unclear"/> of the College Chapel
<pb n="2" facs="L1916_2282_img_1729_2"/>
This ought not to be. The structures of the college<lb/>must be kept in good<lb/>repair by College funds. It was a different thing<lb/>when we were building<lb/>up the structure &<lb/>furnishing it. Delighted to hear that<lb/>all goes well - you need<lb/>patience in your office,<lb/>and patience will bear away<lb/>the victory ultimately - Yours faithfully<lb/>Robert Browne<lb/>Bp. <hi rend="underline">of Clyne</hi> <!-- Writing on the left hand side of the letter. --> Right Rev<lb/><hi rend="underline">Mgr.</hi> Hogan
