This is a letter from Frank G. Kitts to the Alien Officer at Rathmines updating him of his passage from Mullingar to London and thanking him for explaining the proper procedure to gain an identity book which will make his future journeys much easier. As an American citizen traveling while the Great War was going on, Kitts was required to comply with strict travel regulations which applied to all 'aliens'.

Dear Sir., I beg to notify you I crossed from Ireland last evening but when leaving Mullingar notified the authorities that I would register on arrival in London ,at Highgate .I was informed that it would be necessary to present myself again at Rathmines but in view of your intimation that it would be in order to travel through to London from Mullingar acted on your advice. There may now be a difficulty as regards advice coming form Dublin to Highgate ,as the authorites at Mullingar may not deem it necessary to send forward the usual notification to London. I have to thank you for the consideration shown to me in explaini -ing the necessary procedure & trust that when I am next in Dublin I will be in possession of an Identity Book which will obviate considerable trouble., Yours faithfully., Francis.
