This is a letter from P. McCarthy to Ivor Churchill Guest (1873-1939), Lord Wimborne, the lord lieutenant of Ireland. The letter concerns the vacant position of crown solicitor in Cork due to the former crown solicitor, Henry Arthur Wynne (1867-1943), becoming the chief crown solicitor following the death of Malachy Kelly (1850-1916). The letter concerns the vacant position, for which McCarthy is making an application. He states he has been in the profession for 30 years and that he has given his only son to the service of the empire while also giving his own service to the recruiting scheme in the district.
