<p>This is a letter to John J. Taylor (b. 1860), principle clerk for the Chief Secretary's Office, from Lord Basil Blackwood (1870-1917), a British lawyer and civil servant who died at the battle of Ypres in 1917. The letter discusses the payment of Blackwood for his work as private secretary to the household of Ivor Guest (1873-1939), Lord Wimborne, the lord lieutenant. Blackwood enquires where he may obtain documents relating to his income tax to supply to the agent. </p>

Dear Mr. Taylor, I have got a note from the <lb/>Agency which I entrust with <sic>theeadjustment</sic> <lb/>of my Income Tax, asking me whether I have <lb/>any receipts or vouchers showing tax paid <lb/>or deducted form my income. I do not <lb/>know whether such a document is obtainable. <lb/>Could you tell me and at the same time let me know at <lb/>what rate of Income Tax is deducted , as I <lb/>shall probably find that I can claim a <lb/>refund? yours sincerely Basil Blackwood
