This is a letter from Andrew Philip Magill (1871-1941), the private secretary of the Chief Secretary of Ireland, Augustine Birrell (1850-1933). Magill was writing to Thomas Francis Smyth (1875-1937), MP for South Leitrim. In the letter Magill was writing on behalf of Birrell stating that, Birrell had received Farrell's letter of recommendation and had taken it on board. Smyth had sent Birrell a letter asking him to consider Mr Thomas W. Delany (1868-1939) for the position of chief crown solicitor of Ireland. A vacancy had arose when Sir Malachy Kelly (1851-1916) died suddenly. Delany was the crown solicitor for Longford.
