            <note type="summary">
               <p>This letter was written by Jonathan Ernest Pim (1858–1949). Pim was attorney general for Ireland (1914-1915). Following this he was nominated to serve on the Sankey Committee which adjudicated on internment in the aftermath of the 1916 Rising.
The letter was addressed to Augustine Birrell (1850-1933), the chief secretary for Ireland. Birrell was appointed chief secretary in January 1907. In 1916 he resigned as he willingly accepted the political responsibility for the outbreak of the Rising in 1916.
In the letter Pim mentions that John Robert O'Connell (1868-1943) served as his solicitor while Pim was attorney general for Ireland and recommends him for the vacant position of chief crown solicitor.</p>
