This is a letter from Reverend Edward W. Mooney (b. 1846), an Irish Catholic priest to Augustine Birrell (1850-1833), the chief secretary of Ireland. The letter is written in the context of the death of the chief crown solicitor Malachy Kelly (1850-1916). The letter acknowledges the vacant position and the application of Charles P. O'Neill (b. 1867), a solicitor based in Dawson Street Dublin and member of the Irish Parliamentary Party for the position. In the letter Mooney recommends O'Neill as his priest, stating he is responsible, respectful and confident. He also notes that O'Neill is a good friend of John Redmond (1856-1918) leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party. Mooney ends asking of a pardon for his intrusion
