               <p>This is a letter from John Clear (1858-?), a labourer from Killkenny, Augustine Birrell (1850-1933) the Chief Secretary for Ireland. The letter call for an end to the theft of letters by a list of people name. He claims cheques have been taken and cashed in Berlin. He goes on to state Sergeant Benson knows about this and that there is £80,000 of his in a bank in Ohio, believing the named men are keeping it from him.</p>

             Graiguemonagh   Feby. 23<hi rend="superscript">rd</hi> 1916    To you, the Chief Sec. of Ireland,   A Birrell &amp; Lady Birrell, — to inform you<lb/>and King George in Parliament, to put<lb/>at, once an end to underhand <sic>robery</sic> of<lb/><sic>riflen</sic> = (stealing) letters that come to us,<lb/>and answering them as lies and<lb/>Statements signed in our name, by<lb/>Coroners, D<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>., JP.s.,<seg type="unclear"> sevn.</seg> Joyce J.P., —<lb/>and numerous others, holding 12 letters<lb/>and cheques for £8000 from  May 14<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. '08 <lb/>to  Feby 1916 ... money cashed in Berlin.<lb/>These people are responsible for the war.  He refers to Sergt. Benson, Graigue, as<lb/>knowing all about this. There is<lb/>still £80000 of his in the Bank at<lb/>Ohio, &amp; he believes the above names are keep
