               <p>A letter from James P Farrell MP to the Longford Urban District Council on the 8 August 1916. In the letter Farrell reports to the council on financial matters.James Patrick Farrell (1865-1921) was an MP in West Cavan after the 1895 by-election and then North Longford from 1900 until 1918 general elections. Farrell was also founder, owner and editor of the Longford Leader newspaper. He also served on the Longford Urban District Council and acted as its chairman in 1916.The Longford Urban District Council was the local authority and was renamed the Longford Town Council in 2002.</p>

              Finance Committee Report  I have checked balances in Bank books <lb/>with balances on other side and certify <lb/>same to be correct.  The Note Collection has lodged since <lb/>last meeting Â£202.4.3. together with <lb/>Â£95 odd lodged first days of August and is <lb/>in a position to lodge to-morrow Â£30 odd â <lb/>which he collected this evening. â This <lb/>will leave the balance uncollected about <lb/>Â£11.00 which is still high. The collector is <lb/>however working hard to get in money. <seg type="closer"> Signed  James P. Farrell  Aug<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. 8<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. 1916 </seg>
