               <p>Letter from M.C. Macinerny to the under secretary of Ireland concerning extended leave as Macinerney is still too ill to return to work. Macinereney requests that R.J. Kelly.At the time this letter was written Sir Robert Chalmers (1858 - 1938) was serving as the under secretary of Ireland. Chalmers was sent to Ireland as a replacement for Sir Matthew Nathan, who had resigned along with Augustine Birrell, his chief secretary, following the outbreak of the Easter Rising in 1916.</p>

                Bella Vista,  Kingstown,    30th June 1916  .  Sir,   I am advised by my doctor that a further week must elapse <lb/>before I shall be fit to resume my duties as Divisional Justice <lb/>and I beg to request that Mr R.J.Kelly K.C. who is now acting <lb/>as my deputy and whose term will expire on tomorrow, should be <lb/>authorized to continue to sit as a Divisional Justice up to and <lb/>including Saturday, July 8th 1916.  I enclose a medical certificate as to my illness. <seg type="closer"> I am,Sir, <lb/>Your obedient servant  M.C. Macinerney   The Under Secrectary,  Dublin Castle  </seg> Asst Under Secretary <lb/>Please see letter of 27th <lb/> ult. to Treasury. I think <lb/>it will be better to defer <lb/>further application to the Treasury <lb/>in this matter until it is known <lb/>whether Mr Macinerney <lb/>returns duty on <lb/>Monday next  I Write as in letter of 26 <hi rend="superscript">th ult.</hi><lb/>II Inform Chief Magistrate <lb/>III ' M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> R.J.
