<p>Letter from North Circular Laundry to Charles Arthur Munro (1869 - 1952) concerning a collapsed wall. This letter is part of a series of correspondence regarding the collapse of a shared wall between the neighbouring laundry and prison. According to this letter the collapse of the wall was the result of the prison's planting ivy against the wall which proved to heavy for the structure. The manager requests that the Prison Board considers the role of the prison's ivy in the wall's collapse as the author believes the laundry is entitled to compensation as a result.</p>

              N. C. LAUNDRY Ltd. NORTH CIRCULAR ROAD (TOP OF BERKLEY STREET), DUBLIN, 16th Dec 1915. C. Munro Esq. Governor, H. M. Prison MOUNTJOY. DUBLIN. Dear Sir We duly received yours 10th inst and have since had <lb/>the wall in question thoroughly examined again and the further <lb/>report of examination confirms what we had already stated, that <lb/>undoubtedly the heavy vibration of the ivy, weighted as it was <lb/>with so much water, brought down the wall, and we must call on you <lb/>to have your ivy removed from our wall which still remains standing, <lb/>not as a matter of courtesy (as you put it) but as we are entitled <lb/>to call on you to have done. Of course we did not suggest for a moment that the wall in <lb/>question was a party wall and our claim to have you contribute <lb/>towards the cost of the damage done was by reason of your having <lb/>injured the fabric of our wall by allowing the ivy to grow on <lb/>same, and the act of its having been there having materially <lb/>assisted in the wall being blown down. We think we have a just <lb/>and legal claim to such a contribution as we ask you to make, and <lb/>would be obliged if you would again bring this matter before the <lb/>General Prisons Board, with a view to their contributing something <lb/>towards our loss. We have no wish to have any unpleasantness in the matter, <lb/>and think the Board should meet us in a reasonable and equitable <lb/>way. <seg type="closer"> Yours faithfully N. C.
