A letter from Thomas D. Scragg to the Chairman and members of Bray Urban District Council, tendering his resignation on the grounds of failing health. Scraggs cites the twenty years service, as Harbour Master of Bray, he has given. He refers to the strains of work as having a direct effect on his health. He points out how income generated under his tenure has increased year on year. Scruggs asks that his service record be considered favourably.Thomas D. Scragg, born in 1859, was the Harbour Master for Bray.

 Bray Urban District Council, Town Hall, Bray 21st July 1916 Gentleman, Owing to failing health I respectfully beg to tender my resignation as Harbour Master to your Board. I have been engaged at the harbour for twenty five years, five years during its constructions, and upwards of twenty years during its as Harbour Master, that which a previous 25 years of a very strenuous life I am not able to give the same attention as I have have hitherto given. I have never spared myself night or day, to make it as successful as I could. I am glad to be able to say that the income from the harbour has increased yearly. The first year the total income was only £260. Last year it reached £968.2.9. Trusting you will consider favourably my past services. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, (sd) T.D. Scraggs.
