Letter from Sir Matthew Nathan to Alexander McDowell. Nathan is writing to McDowell in relation to unemployment in the mills and factories in Belfast. The letter thanks Mr McDowell for his assurance that rumours of possible unemployment in the weaving mills are unfounded.Sir Matthew Nathan was the under-secretary for Ireland from 1914 to 1916. In 1916 Nathan offered his resignation following the outbreak of the Easter Rising. Alexander McDowell, Esq., was the Joint Director of Ireland for the Ministry of Munitions.

I was very glad to hear this not only on account of the women but also on account of the important industry employing them.
