This is a letter from John R. Moorhead, Antrim and Belfast Crown solicitor to Sir Matthew Nathan (1862-1939), under-secretary for Ireland. In The King v Mrs. E. Morgan case, Mrs. Morgan has been tried for illegally drawing Army Separation Allowance, and is now required to make restitution. John encloses a cheque for £6. 10s, comprised of £5, which Mrs. Morgan produced while in court, and three installments of 10s paid since. A handwritten note at the bottom of the letter gives accounting instructions and states how future payments are to be dealt with.Sir Matthew Nathan was the under-secretary for Ireland from 1914 to 1916. In 1916 Nathan offered his resignation following the outbreak of the Easter Rising.
