<p>The letter was written by Seaghán to James Ryan. Both were imprisoned after the rising and in the letter, he comments on a number of his fellow prisoners and refers to some organisations the inmates had set up in Wandsworth prison, including Irish classes attended by Gearóid O'Sullivan (1891-1948, later Adjutant General of the IRA) and others. He also mentions that he does not know what charge will be brought against him.James Ryan (1891-1970) studied medicine in UCD. He was appointed chief medical officer in the GPO during the Easter Rising. After the Rising he was imprisoned in Stafford and, later, Frongoch and was released in August 1916. Ryan was later a founder member of Fianna Fáil and a government minister.</p>

I hope you are<lb/> enjoying to the full all the benefits<lb/> of his britannic majesty's bountiful <lb/>hospitality. How does the <lb/>and plum pudding agree with you. The boys here are almost all thinking of<lb/> going home one of these days. They <lb/>say they are about tired of their luxur<lb/>ious idleness and that ordinary bacon<lb/> and cabbage with buttermilk or a<lb/> plain pint to wash it down would<lb/> suit them better. Is that your view? I had a letter from No.19<lb/> on Friday and heard you were pounding<lb/> away hard for your next exam. I was<lb/> glad to hear you were turning your<lb/> enforced idleness to such good<lb/> account. I believe Min &amp; Fr.Paul are<lb/> coming over this week. Dick Fitz of the Kerry team is my<lb/> next door neighbour here. I hear Sean Kenny<lb/> was let home last week. I have no<lb/> idea yet what charge they are going to<lb/> bring against me.
