               <p>This is a letter from Herbert Hale (b. 1872) a civil servant in the Royal Irish Constabulary Office to a Mr. Campbell. The letter was written on the the 4 May 1916 and contains details of Hale's whereabouts from the 22 April to 24 April, the days preceding the Easter Rising 1916. In the aftermath of the Rising civil servants were requested to provide information about their whereabouts during the Rising to prove that they had not been involved with the rebels.</p>

Mr. Campbell,   In reply to inquiry, I have to state that on the<lb/> afternoon of Saturday, 22nd April, I was at Rathfarnham Castle Golf Club, on Sunday, 23rd April, I was at Delgany <lb/> Golf Club, on Monday, 24th April, I was at Rathfarnham Castle <lb/> Golf Club, and on the remaining days up to 1st May, I was<lb/> either at my place of residence, 3 Seaview Terrace, Donny-<lb/> brook, or in the immediate vicinity.
