This is a letter from Herbert Hale (b. 1872) a civil servant in the Royal Irish Constabulary Office to a Mr. Campbell. The letter was written on the the 4 May 1916 and contains details of Hale's whereabouts from the 22 April to 24 April, the days preceding the Easter Rising 1916. In the aftermath of the Rising civil servants were requested to provide information about their whereabouts during the Rising to prove that they had not been involved with the rebels.

I slept each night during the period 22nd April to 1st May at the above address - 3 Seaview Terrace, Donnybrook.
